There were darkish clouds looming overhead, and it was getting late. We hadn't found a spring that wasn't boiling, so we decided to ditch that plan and head over to the other side of the bay to climb back up the mountain. Later, our Aleut guide told us she had expected us to go all the way back down the side of the bay we were on, back to the beach, then cross over and come up the other side. We were in a straight-shot sort of mood, so we went running (treading lightly, not to get stuck again) across the marsh, overcoming obstacles as they presented--like too-wide rivers with hot rock beds, boggy earth which was completely disguised but for a light green coloring which is invisible except from inches away, a dense marsh covered in lowland tundra, and, as always, time.
