While we were there, they were working on this purse seine net. This one is also commonly used for salmon. A purse seine net hangs vertically in the water by weights attached to the bottom edge (the lead line) and floats along the top (the cork line). Along the bottom of a purse seine are a number of rings with a rope passing through them all. When that rope is pulled, the rings are drawn close to one another (much like the drawstring on a purse), preventing the fish from sounding the net.
