Shane's Birthday and Going Away Mexicana Extravaganza
Shane celebrates his 22nd birthday this month, and also on Friday left for a few months to go to law enforcement training in Sitka. The night before, we threw a bash in his honor, Mexican style, and ate more food than we had in the past 3 weeks altogether. There were chips and salsa, black bean burritos, beef tacos, Halibut fish tacos, fajitas, seven-layer dip, taco salad, Spanish rice, and potato salad (thanks for that southern hint, Chief). There was a little Gypsy Kings, but mostly country, and Jim's sombrero was a hit (notice the RCA box it's made out of reads "Hecho en Mexico" on the front, and for some reason has a cut-out cardboard coke can on it and a sheriff's star with "!POLICIA!" on the side). After the original chuckles concerning Jim's sharpie mustache and homemade hat decreased and Jim could be seen across the room carrying on serious conversations with the Chief of Police and others regarding business like fluoridation for the water in Sand Point, the mustache was worth a good hearty middle-of-the-night-waking-up-and-reliving-it laugh for Sarah.
