Welcome To Cold Bay
We've flown through Cold Bay several times during our travels, but this time we're here to stay for awhile. The airport here is a hub for Alaska, and it holds the fifth largest runway in the state. Residents of the town (about 80) mostly hold air traffic jobs, or positions with the weather service or wildlife refuge here. They are mostly transient, as this is not a traditional native village.
The town is dotted with quonset huts (Cold Bay served as a base for the 11th Air Force in the 1940s). We've spent our first two nights at the Bearfoot Inn, which encouraged us to work through the weekend.
