Making our way past Trident, we found ourselves on the rocky beach with the tide going out, but still too high to make it around many of the rock walls protruding along the shore. We had our xtratufs on, after being forced to choose between having wet feet and not having support, we chose to stay dry--as we were not forewarned about the terrain (so far, honestly, these Alaskan "hikes" have really just been walks, as almost anything is after you've been "hiking" with Charley Patten). Really, we're glad we wore our xtratufs, because there are so many places we couldn't have gone without them, like early on in the day when Jim had to carry the other women around the rocks in high tide.
